The Last Tiger / Roche Moutonnee
Last Tiger
in my mind
the last tiger
burns
she walks through hanging valleys with heavy paws
torching the truncated spur
lighting the darkness
her flaming fur reveals a broken land
sliced earth
ice-cut soil
a landscape ripped open by the glacier
by boulders born at the base
held in the ice like a file
an enormous cutting tool
that cuts the earth
and steals rocks hills
leaves them solitary
and conspicuous
refugees in a U-shaped valley
cold sheep grazing the mud
this is a region devastated by ice
torn apart by the glacier as it makes its slow journey
through my mind
the last tiger looks down on the river of ice
as it tears the land from between her paws
and proceeds regardless
