Define your project

The Green Line is a project that looks into the impact the current climate crisis is having on students and those alike. Organised as a series of creative and critical pieces that we plan to publish on FalWriting, featuring anything from short stories, poems, personal accounts to interviews and articles.

Why did you decide to do this for your collaborative project?

We believe that the current climate crisis is at the forefront of many people’s minds at the moment, it is a pressing issue that seems to affect us all no matter our personal stance. This particular project seemed like a good opportunity to explore this further; exploring the individual’s experience with the crisis. We also wished to take a more creative approach to a theme that is very topical at the moment; so, we have given our writers freedom in their creative choices.

What do you want to gain?

Not only do we want to gain further insight into the climate crisis, but we also wish to gain experience organising and writing a series that could be published digitally. Already we have learnt a lot about managing and commissioning writers. We also get to delve into our own experience with the climate crisis allowing us to gain a clearer perspective through writing and learning about other people’s experiences and choices in regard to the climate crisis.

What are you the most excited about?

So far reading the responses to the Call for Interest has been really interesting and exciting. We now have an idea of what the series is going to look like as it slowly comes together.  People have been really creative with what they want to write, so it is exciting to see what the final drafts will be like. Alongside these pieces we are going to be writing for the project ourselves which is also exciting as we get to directly partake in the series.

What has been the most enjoyable part so far?

Getting to play with different ideas, such as the sort of stuff we want to commission, allowing us to be creative in suggestions. Talking through what we want to write has also been really enjoyable as it is very encouraging. Last week we also got to make a poster, which was fun as we then got to see it be printed and placed around the university.

What is next for your project?

We will be asking directly for commissions, in order to create a more expansive series whilst also working on our own feature pieces. We will also be crafting interviews in order to add more variety to the project.
