Steren – Entry Two

Dearest Julia,

As my first-born grandchild. I had such high hopes for you. I remember the first time your mother placed you in my arms. This small bundle. So delicate and beautiful, and I promised that I would do my best to bring you up to be a sophisticated young woman.

As you grew, I always knew something was not quite right. I was worried your mother had already influenced you. But I could never put my finger on it. You were so wild, and you just wanted to be outside. I am sure you must recall the hundreds of times I would call you for afternoon tea and you would cause such a fuss.

Julia, my darling girl, you have so much potential. I just hope you will see that you could be the perfect wife for someone. My hope is that while on this journey, you will discover this for yourself.

I have given you my favourite photo of us. I love it when you read to me like you do. It slips my mind what you were reading to me, but I was just listening to your voice. How beautiful you sounded. My heart was full to bursting. It was in this moment, that I knew you wouldn’t end up like your mother. You just needed me to guide you, help you find your path. Which is exactly why you are on this ship.

I do hope this letter finds you, I hid it in your favourite book, knowing you would pack it and take it on the ship with you.

I love you with my whole heart Julia. Make me proud.

All my love,

Nanny Cath
