Introducing Eoin Murray
Hi there! I’m Eoin Murray and I first went to university thinking I’d write novels and nothing else; cut to seven years later I do have a novel draft (rough though it is) and I’m privileged to have the chance to teach students about video game narratives. Just goes to show, you never know how things are going to turn out. I’ve completed a BA in Creative & Professional Writing, an MA in Creative Practice and got my PhD last December analysing Utopia in Video Games (with much help from my fellow PhD students and a very snuggly pug named Mr. Beefy). Creatively, I’m working on my novel draft and seeing how well I can adapt the comedy-supernatural narrative I’ve written into a video game while I’m at it! As with most creative endeavours, it’s a slow but ultimately rewarding process.
While in Falmouth, I’m going to be teaching the Writing for Games module and look forward to cultivating new ideas in all my students about how they can approach writing and the kinds of stories video games can tell that no other media can. Between that I’ll be continuing my own research looking at subjects like gender, refugee narratives, social media impact and post-fallout societies in video games (and play several more just for the fun of it). I’m also going to explore Falmouth while I have the chance so if anyone has any good recommendations for where to start, please let me know!
