Join our very own Craig Barr-Green and YA novelist Emily Barr on April 25th from 11am to 3pm in The Writer’s Block, Camborne to explore building extraordinary new worlds and creating the characters that live in them.

Open to anyone aged 11 – 25, this workshop will help you develop dystopias, fantasy and speculative fiction across various media: the only limit is your imagination.

We asked Craig about the workshop – this is what he told us

This is an interactive, creative session for the south west’s young writers, artists and thinkers.

In this workshop we will build and explore all kinds of new worlds. Anything goes. Your imaginations will run wild. But what makes these worlds authentically real, however uncanny or bizarre they may seem?

We will work with alternative histories, science fictions, imagined fantasy lands, parallel universes and worlds within worlds. What are the new rules, physics, geographies, ecologies and cultures? How does life (in whatever form you choose) interact with the world around it?

Most importantly: how can we use our imagined worlds as foundations for exciting storytelling?

These new worlds might be home to aliens, insects, ghosts, AI technology, robots, overlord hamsters (we all know they have it in them), radical cheese sandwiches or humans with a twist. Or even all of the above.

It’s up to you. The sky is not the limit.

All creatives are encouraged to attend: novelists, screen, radio and theatre writers, artists, poets… anything you want really. We will make it work.

There may well be maps. We do like a map.
