Metaphors of Teaching Creative Writing
Elena Traina
Wednesday 29 January 5-6pm
Seminar A, Falmouth Campus
You can read a little about what Elena will be discussing below:
In this talk, I offer some considerations on the “workshop” as a metaphor and on alternative metaphors for the creative writing process, and its related teaching/learning experience. Building on previous research on conceptual metaphors and the metaphors of creative writing, the workshop as a metaphor is unpacked, detailing its most common entailments and understandings. The workshop will be explored as a site for building, repairing, practising and experimenting; whereas alternative metaphors will come under five major themes: health, sports, journey, narrative and textile. Alongside the entailments of each theme and metaphor, and their implications and ramifications, the fundamental questions asked in this talk revolve around the role of the tutor and what is it that is being compared to what, exactly.
