Print & Making: Students Write Through the Text

This week our first year Creative Writing students looked at writing through, back and over text with some stunning results.

Students taking the module Writing as a Reader were asked to consider the ways we can write back to the text in a variety of contexts. In this session we looked at some critical, theoretical and practical approaches to writing over and writing through.

To assist us in the exploration, we took examples from Jonathon Safron Foer’s die-cut Tree of Codes to black-out poetry and Tom Phillips’s landmark project A Humument

Below, two pieces of work that came out of the workshop. The piece on the left is by first year student Jessica Gajadharsingh, the one on the right by first year student Adriana Ciontea.
