Book Launch: Bringing You In Dark Places by Wyl Menmuir
Realising your own capability is such an unusual feeling. It's a sort of pleasant shock, that moment of the uncanny when you realise the person you are isn't the person you thought. There's a stranger occupying the exact space you thought you were occupying. And the stranger is you. And the stranger can do things.
A month ago, our team travelled to the Southwest Outdoor Festival to launch Wyl Menmuir's In Dark Places. As the sun set over Cheddar Gorge, we invited everyone to enjoy a glass of wine by the fire whilst Wyl read out an excerpt of his book.
A lot of feelings clicked into place for me then; the feeling of ancientness in a fire, in a storyteller, in a crowd; the feeling of accomplishment, the joy in seeing people give Wyl and our project the attention it deserved; but also that pleasing disconcertion – for all the peace and magic of the night, I still had a voice shouting in my head 'Bugger me. We made a book.'
Now, with a little distance, I've had time to reflect on the process and to think how proud I am to have been involved in this project. It gives me great pleasure to invite you to Falmouth University's on-campus launch of In Dark Places. Wyl will be reading from his work and you'll get a chance to hear about other publishing projects happening in the department. We hope this event will be a chance for students to network with industry professionals over a few glasses of complimentary wine. We're thrilled to bring the project home, to the place it began and share it with all of you!
The launch of In Dark Places will take place on Wednesday the 1st of November 2017 at 6 pm in Daphne Du Maurier, Lecture B, Tremough campus.
